A gas fire pit is the more practical choice for most Oakland County homeowners — push-button ignition, adjustable flame, no ash cleanup, and no wood storage requirement. We install gas lines from your home's supply, electronic ignition systems, and decorative fire glass or ceramic log sets that produce a clean, consistent flame. Gas fire features require proper permits and a pressure test on the gas line before the inspector signs off.
Wood-burning fire pits and outdoor fireplaces are built with fire brick combustion chambers and proper combustion geometry so the fire drafts correctly. We build surrounds from natural stone, manufactured stone veneer, or concrete block, with spark screens and appropriate clearances from structures and property lines per local fire codes. Surrounding seat walls, stone benches, and paver pads are part of the same project — they define the gathering area and give the fire feature a finished context.
Southeast Michigan falls are worth extending outdoors. A well-positioned fire feature with seating walls on two or three sides captures the heat, blocks prevailing wind, and makes late September and October evenings genuinely comfortable. We design fire features during the overall outdoor space design so placement, sightlines, and seating geometry are worked out before anything is built.
