Flooring Transitions
We install flush-mount transition strips and precision-cut thresholds so different flooring materials flow naturally from room to room.

Seamless Transitions Between Multiple Flooring Types

Flooring transitions are one of those details that reveal whether a renovation was done carefully or just fast. A poorly cut transition between hardwood and tile catches the eye every time you walk through the room. We plan transition locations during the design phase — ideally they fall in doorway centerlines rather than in the middle of open floor space. We execute them with the same precision as the rest of the floor.
Method varies by material combination. Hardwood-to-tile transitions use custom-milled T-molding or flush metal strips set into the subfloor so the joint sits at the correct height for both materials. LVP-to-tile transitions use manufacturer-matched reducer profiles. Where two materials are close in height, we precision-cut abutting materials for a minimal-gap joint. Where height differences exist, tapered reducer strips create a gradual, intentional slope.
In Southeast Michigan homes with open floor plans, there are often four or five different flooring types making contact somewhere in the space. Kitchens open to dining areas, living rooms flow into entry halls. Planning all transitions before installation begins prevents situations where the sequence makes a clean transition impossible. We've seen that problem in work we've inherited. It's avoidable if you think it through from the start.
