Unfinished basements in Southeast Michigan homes accumulate stuff for years because nobody wants to deal with them. The ones we finish most often have a moisture issue that was never addressed. Undersized electrical is common. Ceiling heights sometimes require planning to make the space livable. We solve those problems first: interior drainage, sump pump upgrades, and vapor barriers. Framing keeps insulation away from foundation walls.
Once the envelope is right, we build out what the homeowner actually wants. Home theaters, wet bars, home offices, guest suites, exercise rooms. We run dedicated circuits for everything and put in recessed lighting on dimmer circuits. HVAC extensions, plumbing for a bathroom or wet bar — we coordinate those with licensed subs we work with regularly.
Every finished basement we do in Oakland County gets permitted and inspected. Egress windows, smoke and CO2 detectors, GFCI protection, proper stair handrails — all of it done to code. That matters when you sell and need to document the square footage as finished space.
