Soft-Close Drawer and Door Hardware Installation

Soft-close hardware does two things: it eliminates the slamming noise that wears on a household, and it protects cabinet boxes and door faces from the impact damage that accumulates over years. The hydraulic dampers built into Blum and Hettich systems decelerate doors and drawers in the last few inches of travel — the difference in daily use is immediate and obvious.

For new custom cabinetry, we specify Blum Tandem plus Blumotion full-extension drawer slides and Blum clip-top hinges with integrated damping as standard. Full-extension slides mean you can access items at the back of a drawer without rearranging what's in front, and the Blumotion mechanism keeps them quiet under heavy loads. For retrofit work on existing cabinets, we evaluate your current hinge and slide systems and select compatible upgrades that mount without modifying the cabinet box.

Oakland County homeowners doing a full kitchen build sometimes ask whether soft-close hardware is worth the cost over standard systems. The answer is yes — the quality difference in daily use is significant, and the hardware protects the finish on door faces and drawer fronts from the chip and crack damage that builds up over time on slammed cabinetry.
