Paint failure on a Michigan home follows a predictable pattern: peeling on north-facing siding, alligatoring on south-facing trim, cracked caulk at every window. We start every exterior painting project with surface assessment and systematic prep: power washing to remove mildew and oxidation, scraping all loose and peeling paint to solid substrate, sanding feathered edges, caulking every open joint and gap, and priming bare surfaces before any finish coat. We use Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior and Sherwin-Williams Duration — both formulated for Michigan's freeze-thaw climate with flexible acrylic resins that move with the substrate instead of cracking at the surface.

Weatherproofing runs alongside the painting work. We replace rotted trim before painting over it. We caulk around windows and doors with elastomeric sealant that handles the full thermal range from Michigan January to July. We repair fascia and soffit before they absorb one more winter. We also do deck staining and sealing, power washing as a standalone service, and garage door and shutter painting as part of full exterior refreshes across Metro Detroit.
